Leading US insurers decided on Wednesday to suspend contributions to political campaigns for the next few months, following last week’s violence at the US Capitol and the challenge to victory for President-elect Joe Biden.

Chubb Ltd, one of the world’s largest insurers, MetLife Inc, Liberty Mutual Insurance and Travelers Companies Inc have joined a number of companies that are reevaluating or temporarily stopping political donations.

“In light of last week’s mafia attack on the United States Capitol and attempts to divert the poll from the electoral college, Chubb has suspended all campaign contributions for three to six months while the company conducts an assessment of its contribution policies politics, ”the company said in a statement.

Liberty Mutual said it is suspending political contributions for the first quarter and is reevaluating its contribution strategy.

Travelers said it will not make any contributions through its Political Action Committee in the short term and will evaluate how it will address future political donations.
